Where is hardwood flooring manufactured?

Because we manufacture our hardwood floors within a 300-mile radius, we produce the lowest possible carbon footprint. When buying your hardwood floor, be sure to ask where it is manufactured. Engineered wood floors are typically manufactured with 2, 3, or 5 thin sheets, or layers, of wood that are laminated together to form a plank. A wood veneer is then added to the top layer.

This construction creates a wooden floor that is dimensionally stable and less affected by moisture than a solid wood floor. An advantage of engineering construction is that the layers can counteract each other, which will prevent the board from growing or shrinking with changes in humidity. You can install these floors on any subfloor. Most engineered floors can be nailed, stapled, glued, or floated.

Designer floors vary in sizes and board widths can be mixed to create a truly custom look for your home. Because designer floors are made of several layers of wood, the top finish coat can be a completely different wood species. We've been creating home flooring products right here in the United States for 100 years. Today, expert craftsmen in 6 plants across the country produce our hardwood.

Most of those products manufactured in the U.S. They are harvested in the Appalachian Mountains, making Hartco our leading domestic manufacturer of hardwood flooring in North America. Appalachian wood is known for its light grain, uniform color and excellent stability. I need to know more about the techniques of laying hardwood floors, as well as how the wood is fixed to prevent movement and dragging.

Floor designers can also work on all of your rooms or just one, depending on your preferences and the number of rooms you want to remodel in your home. Making matters worse, between 10 and 30% of Made in China floors come from illegally harvested logs. Prefinished floors offer easier installation, especially for the do-it-yourselfer, but floors finished after installation offer a more impenetrable seal to moisture from above and a more even appearance. This additional dimensional stability means that engineered wood floors can be installed on concrete subfloors, above a radiant floor heating system, and below ground level.

Understanding hardwood construction and materials can make you a smarter buyer, help you better determine the value of hardwood floors, and stay within the parameters of your budget. We've been creating hardwood floors and other home flooring products right here in the United States for 100 years. Solid wood floors are sensitive to moisture and are not recommended for installation below ground level or directly on a concrete slab. Solid hardwood floors are constructed of planks made from a single piece of wood with tongue and groove edges.
